Jirrahlinga

Hello again!

I have some pictures to show you from Jirrahlinga Animal Sanctuary. We spent the day there looking at lots of native Australian animals that you cannot find in America except at the zoo! There are lots of beautiful birds that fly free here. I can see cockatoos in the trees in the morning. The cockatoos at Jirrahlinga were from 25 to over 100 years old!! We also saw wombats, although it was a hot day so they were all sleeping. I got to hold a very large snake! He started to wrap his tail around me, so I didn't hold him for very long. We also saw some koalas and kangaroos. Usually you get to hold and pet the koalas, but because so many people have the flu or a cold they have stopped allowing it. If a koala catches a cold it could die! I also saw some flying foxes. They were very active and I have some video to show you when I return.

Can anyone find the koala in this picture?

Monday

Hello!
Right now it is Tuesday at 8:00 am, but at Dorn it is Monday at 3:00 pm! I am 17 hours ahead of everyone at Dorn!! We have been very busy since we arrived. It took us 35 hours to get to Australia. I left Chicago at 10:30 am on Friday, and I did not arrive in Melbourne until 9:30 pm on Saturday night! When we arrived we stayed in Melbourne and walked around the city. Right outside our hotel there were performers on a flying trapeeze! Yesterday we arrived in Ocean Grove and went to the beach. (What season do you think it is here iin Australia?) After the beach, we had a barbcue and ate on the patio.
Today we are going to Jirrahinga, which is a small zoo. I will see bats, emus, kangaroos, koalas and wallabees! After the zoo, we are going to kayak down the river and have a picnic for dinner. Next time I write I will put up some pictures of what I have seen.
I miss you all, I hope you are having a good time and being safe, respectful, and ready to learn!
-Ms. Borkowski
*Under my postings is a map of where I am. I started in Melbourne, but if you move the map up you can see where I am now in Ocean Grove, at the bottom of the bay.
